The following specifications are for a self-propelled seal-coating machine used to apply asphalt based seal coating materials to properly prepared base surfaces. This unit will be designed with the following features:

  1. ASPHALT MATERIAL TANK:  340 gallon capacity of 12-gauge steel construction with 7-gauge flanged circular heads; 18" x 36" rectangular fill with a hinged lid and anti-splash inner liner; 4" rear discharge valve, remote control from the console; full sweep, hydraulically driven agitator with staggered paddles, this assists with the mixing and keeps material from settling to the bottom of the tank, controlled from the console (positions: neutral, forward and reverse).

  2. WATER TANKS:  Two (2) 20-gallon capacity 14-gauge steel construction water tanks.  Water can be applied to the surface when necessary using a 12-VDC 2.8 GPM pump and dual front spray nozzles.  The pump is controlled by a toggle switch located on the console.

  3. HYDRAULIC RESERVOIR: 20-gallon capacity of 14-gauge steel construction; 1½" outlet with mid-tank pickup tube, tied to 12 GPM suction filter/50 GPM pressure filter to an Eaton transmission and the gear pump located on the front of the Eaton transmission.  The flow from the gear pump to a priority flow valve and to the 3-valve bank.

  4. FUEL TANK: 20-gallon capacity of 14-gauge steel construction, ½" outlet with mid-tank pickup tube with ½" ball valve to turn the fuel on/off.

  5. VALVE BANK:  Three (3) valve bank located on the console controls. Controls system operation for the squeegee assembly and tank agitation.  The inlet relief valve controls system pressure for the system.

  6. MAIN POWER SOURCE:  24 BHP Honda engine coupled to a Hydraulic transmission with a Love-Joy style spider coupler which controls the dual rear wheel drives and brakes; secondary gear pump coupled to the hydraulic transmission with a 2-bolt SAE A 5/8" 9 tooth spline to control the steering, agitation (forward and reverse) and squeegees (up, down, and cantilever).

  7. SQUEEGEES:  Controlled from the console valve bank using a 2"x 8" hydraulic cylinder to lift and lower the squeegee assembly, a 2" x 4" hydraulic cylinder for cantilevering the rear two squeegee blades left and right.

  8. TANK AGITATION:  Controlled from the console valve bank using a large CID Gerotor type hydraulic motor.  Control for FORWARD, REVERSE, and NEUTRAL.

  9. STEERING:  Flow from the priority flow valve to the steering control valve (with power beyond, excess flow from the steering control valve is directed to the 3-valve control bank) flow from valve to 3" steering cylinder.  Controls RIGHT/LEFT rotation of dual triangulated front tires.  3" x 8" steering cylinder limits front wheels to 120° of rotation to eliminate wheel hop associated with over steering.  Dual front steering axle with two tire and wheel assembly mounted on idler hubs for easy maintenance.

  10. MATERIAL DISPENSING: A hand lever located on the console controls the 4" 8 bolt flange mounted butterfly valve at the bottom of the rear tank head.  Connected to a 4" hose and discharge elbow, which dumps between the two front squeegees, which allows the slurry material to spread out for even distribution on the paved surface.

  11. SPEED CONTROL:  There are two ways to control ground speed of the unit:  using a combination of two (2) levers located on the left side of the console; one lever controls the 24 BHP engine speed and the other controls the displacement of the hydraulic transmission, which in turn controls the speed of the wheel motors and is linked to the unit neutral safety switch which activates the brakes.

  12. MISCELLANEOUS CONSOLE ITEMS:  Ignition key switch; low oil pressure warning light; engine choke; emergency stop button (kill’s engine and sets fail-safe brakes); heat exchanger fan control; water pump on/off switch; brake on/off switch.

  13. REAR DECK:  Large, hinged deck to allow easy access to components located below the deck.  The wheel motors, brakes, dump valve and squeegee up/down cylinder are located under the rear deck.

  14. TIRES AND WHEELS: Four (4) 20.5 x 8.0-10.0 tires (6-ply, 1535#load rating) mounted on 9-gauge wheels, two front tires and wheels mounted on a side by side front steering axle assembly and two rear tire and wheels assemblies mounted on the rear hydraulic drive motor/brake assemblies.
